Sophomore Job Shadow Day 2018:
Learning about Opportunities & Possibilities
Each year as a sophomore community we visit various companies for a Job Shadowing Experience. This is the opportunity for students to be part of the daily workings of an organization. This year we were fortunate to visit nine amazing organizations on Tuesday, March 20. Asnuntuck Community College, Cigna, Esteem Manufacturing, The Hartford, Microsoft, Stanley Black & Decker, United Healthcare, Upward Hartford and Pratt and Whitney opened their doors and shared information about their businesses, their industries, the opportunities that they offer and the educational requirements to pursue various roles and career paths. Our students were very excited about the experiences and the opportunities it afford them. They asked several questions and were inspired to work hard now to achieve their future goals.
One student that went to Pratt and Whitney proclaimed, "I want to work here! They have such a welcoming atmosphere." When asked, What did you learn? His response was, "I learned that at Pratt and Whitney they are people like me that I can relate to. It gives me motivation to work somewhere where I can be comfortable and successful. I get the sense of inclusion and I can be exactly who I am (a nerd )while being treated like a close friend. I want to be a CAD designer working in the manufacturing sector. It felt good being surrounded by like-minded individuals who I can learn from, be inspired and have fun with."
We are extremely thankful to our partner organizations. They help us to enrich the educational experience that Pathways offers in ways that a school cannot do alone.
