Junior Parent Checklist

  • Review your child’s junior class schedule

  • Read and review the school rules and regulations as listed in the student handbook, distributed at the beginning of the school year. Please read the attendance policy, especially as it relates to the loss of semester credits

  • Highlight important dates on the school calendar. Pay close attention to the dates each marking period ends for report cards and exam dates

  • Plan to attend the Meet the Teachers Night in the fall

  • Attend the Junior Parent Planning Night in October

  • Learn more about the upcoming PSAT/NMSQT and SAT at www.collegeboard.com

  • Read and review the Junior Planning Packet

  • Discuss 12th grade course selections with your student, carefully noting graduation and college admission requirements

  • Schedule an appointment with your student’s counselor to discuss post high school planning.

  • Work closely with your child’s counselor throughout the year

  • Prepare and plan college/career visits as needed

  • If your student is in an Advanced Placement (AP) course, consult with his/her teacher regarding taking the AP exam and/or the SAT II Subject Exam

  • Visit http://www.federalstudentaid.ed.gov/ to learn more about saving for college and financial aid
