Midsummer Letter to Parents

July 20th, 2009

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I hope this midsummer letter finds you and your family enjoying the wonderful weather and time together.  For some of our students, summer school is just finishing and for others vacations are just beginning.  My wish is that you are able to relax a little, read a book and maybe even grow a garden.

We have adopted the motto: “Where we prepare for tomorrow, today,” because now, more than ever, it is important for our students to be prepared for the global economy.  As we have seen in recent months, the local economy is affected by what happens all over the world, and making sure our students are ready to compete in this global economy is a top priority.  This year we will emphasize the development of Scholarship, Leadership and Citizenship in each and every one of our students.  As a result, our school goal will be to improve the written communication skills of all of our students so they can succeed in all that they strive to accomplish.

We have seen our preliminary CAPT results and it appears that our sophomores performed admirably on the tests.  Check our website as we will release more information as it becomes available.

At Pathways, we have been working hard preparing for the 2009-2010 school year.  Some of the work we have been doing includes:

  • Revising the website to include more up-to-date information and serve as a better resource for families, staff and students.
  • Developing our Industry Advisory Board to help create job shadow and internship opportunities for our students.
  • Registering our new freshmen and preparing our summer Bridge Program for the incoming students.
  • Hiring new Science and Spanish teachers.
  • Moving some of our classrooms and offices to better utilize the new space made available by our neighbor, CRIS radio, moving to a new location.

Summer is also a time to reflect back on the past school year and make adjustments to our programs.  The major change will be our moving back to the Semester system with 4 classes a semester.  While the trimester system gave us the opportunity to provide more sections of classes, the longer daily class length of the Semester system will allow us to more fully utilize the technology tools available.

Remember the first day of school for all students is August 31st.  Be present, on-time and prepared.

Sincerely,

Steven Dellinger-Pate
Principal
