The Hartford Host Interdistrict Magnet Schools are selected Hartford Public Schools that have been established by the State Department of Education and the Hartford Board of Education and made available to students from Hartford and the Greater Hartford Region.
The schools are dedicated to academic excellence and student and staff diversity. Each of the core programs is designed to meet the highest state and national standards for curriculum, instruction and student achievement. Additionally, each Magnet School has its own specialized curriculum "theme" or approach to teaching students. The unique characteristics of each school are intended to attract parents and students who find these features responsive to their particular needs and interests.
When fully implemented, at least 50% of the students attending Magnet Schools will come from suburban school districts, with the remaining 50% composed of students residing in Hartford.
The Hartford Host Interdistrict Magnet Schools are open to all students eligible to attend a school in Hartford or any of the towns in the Greater Hartford Region. Students currently attending private or parochial schools are also eligible to apply. Students already attending a Magnet School do not need to re-apply for the same school each year.
Current Magnet students planning to attend a next level school (elementary to middle or middle to high school) must apply for the next school. There are no transfers or special circumstance placements to Magnet Schools.
